Anointing service, 6 September 2026. The reading is 2 Kings 2:6–15. Elijah told Elisha to stay behind, because the Lord had sent him to Jordan. Elisha answered, “As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.” Fifty sons of the prophets stood far off to watch. Elijah wrapped his mantle, struck the water, and the Jordan divided so the two of them crossed on dry ground. On the other side Elijah said, “Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee.” Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit. Elijah said it was a hard thing, but if Elisha saw him when he was taken, it would be so.

As they walked and talked, a chariot of fire and horses of fire parted them, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it and cried, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.” He tore his own clothes, took up the mantle that fell, and went back to the bank of the Jordan. He struck the water and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” The waters parted again. The sons of the prophets who had been watching from Jericho said, “The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha.” They came to meet him and bowed to the ground.

Many people will stand at a distance and watch your journey. Some will tell you to settle, to stop pushing, and to give up the pursuit. Elisha refused that counsel. He knew that if he wanted the double portion, spectators could not choose his destination. When the chariot appeared, he did not lose the vision. He kept his eyes on Elijah, caught the mantle, and returned to his own Jordan. The same people who had watched from afar came and bowed, because the evidence was no longer an argument. The spirit of Elijah rested on him.

Do not let anyone talk you out of the assignment. Distraction is the enemy of elevation. Keep your eyes on the mantle God has set before you, step through your Jordan, and let God show His power in your life.

Before God uses a person to touch nations, He often tests their courage at home. In Judges 6 the Lord told Gideon to take his father’s bull, tear down the altar of Baal in his father’s house, and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Opposition tried to discourage him, but Gideon did what God had spoken. He cleansed his father’s house first. Before he led Israel against Midian, he had to break the idolatry in his own lineage.

God is calling you to stand for your family. Ezekiel 22:30 says God looked for a person to make up the hedge and stand in the gap, so the land would not be destroyed. Walk in the Spirit. As an intercessor you are a guard over your household, pulling down generational altars and turning judgment aside through prayer and righteousness.

God honours those who honour Him. In Genesis 18, before judgment fell on Sodom and Gomorrah, He said, “Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?” He reveals His secrets to His servants. Abraham had honoured God, raised his family in righteousness, and walked uprightly, so God brought him into covenant closeness and let him intercede for the land. You cannot honour God and have God refuse to honour you. First Samuel 2:30 says, “Them that honour me I will honour.” When you give Him your life, your resources, and your actions, He lifts you, turns decisions in your favour, and shields your destiny.

Faithfulness carries a reward. Hebrews 11:6 says God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Serve Him with consistency. Stand against discouragement, tear down every ungodly altar in your foundation, stand in the gap for your home, and honour God in all your ways. As you seek Him, He will honour your faith, grant you the mantle for the journey, and establish His victory in your life.
